2018年7月、はるばるイギリスからEmily Foxさんが産婦人科に2週間、小児科に2週間実習に来てくれました〜(*^-^*)

とにかく明るく元気な彼女は中学生まで日本で過ごしたこともあり、日本語もペラペラでとても活発に動き回ってました。亀田の実習前後には福島でのボランティア活動も行っているようで頭が上がりません。さらにすごいことに、彼女かの有名なケンブリッジ大学の医学部の学生なんです！どれくらいすごいかって？

ちなみに、日本の誇る東大は46位だそうです・・レベルが違いますね・・・

勉強ばかりしてるのかと思いきや、休日にはなんとサーフィンスクール（http://www.glassea.jp/school.html）に一人で乗り込んでEnjoyしちゃうくらいの活発さ・・・元気ですねー！

Hello! I'm Emily Fox, a medical student from the UK on my clinical elective at the Kameda Medical Center. I have had the great privilege of spending the past two weeks in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, and would like to share my experience with you.
My main aims for undertaking my clinical elective in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department was to further my clinical knowledge in this specialty, compare and contrast maternal and foetal healthcare in the UK and Japan, and to familiarise myself with Japanese medical terminology. I am happy to report, that I feel all my objectives were met during my rotation. I saw many unique cases which I had not encountered in the UK, which furthered my desire to learn more about the specialty. In clinic, I was impressed by the thorough manner in which the doctors addressed patients' concerns and the communication skills demonstrated. Compared to the UK, antenatal checks and screening are more frequent and detailed. I felt the detailed nature of the appointment gave expectant mothers reassurance and opportunity to address their worries about their pregnancy, leading to greater patient satisfaction. Furthermore, I was able to spend a day in the artificial reproduction department, where I observed oocyte harvesting, ICSI, and embryo transfer. I was grateful for this opportunity because as a student, I would not have been able to observe this in the UK as NHS funded assisted reproduction is becoming increasingly rare due to limited resources.
All the doctors have been remarkably keen tutors, and I have learnt so much in the past few weeks. Everyone was happy to answer any questions I had, however simple it may have been. If there was something that I had not encountered before, they did not hesitate to take time out of their busy schedules to give me tutorials on the subject matter. In addition, I was very fortunate to have been invited to attend a conference in Tokyo, where I had the opportunity to attend talks and presentations discussing new data and recommendations to improve clinical practice in Japan. I am truly grateful for this amazing opportunity.
While the doctors here work incredibly hard, they are not all work and no play. Both the junior and senior doctors were all very generous and took me out for meals on numerous occasions. These occasions were a great opportunity for me to speak frankly with the doctors outside of the clinical setting, providing me with insight into the lives of Japanese clinicians. Also, all the food served in restaurants around here, especially the seafood, was delicious! Furthermore, I had the opportunity to watch some of the doctors from the team participate in the Kameda Cup, a surfing competition for professionals working in the healthcare sector all over Japan, hosted by the Kameda Medical Center. I had a fantastic time watching all of the competitors ride the waves on the beach which is overlooked by the hospital.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team for their camaraderie and tutelage. This experience has been truly unforgettable and has furthered my desire to work as a clinician in Japan. Without a shadow of a doubt, I will be coming back to Kamogawa City and Kameda Medical Center (if they will have me!).
