What can be detected by cerebral angiography test?

Through the groin (femoral artery) area, a thin tube called catheter is inserted into blood vessels to place contrast agent to enable the doctor to treat or to confirm cerebrovascular lesion or brain tumor in the brain, such as, cerebral aneurysm and brain infarct.

Precautions to be taken before cerebral angiography test

1. Please notify your doctor beforehand if you have or have ever had the following cases.

  1. (1) You have a history of allergic reactions after the use of certain medications.
  2. (2) You have a history of feeling ill after taking certain medication or after being put on a drip (especially contrast agent).
  3. (3) You have a history of getting zits or breathing with difficulty or feeling dizzy after a treatment.

Please note that there are some restrictions on food the day before the test due to the different time to start.

Person scheduled before noon

  1. 1. Please do not eat or drink after 21:00 (the day before the test) till the test ends.
  2. 2. Please follow the nurse's instructions about the oral medicine taking.

Person scheduled after noon

  1. 1. Please do not eat or drink after the breakfast.
  2. 2. Please follow the nurse's instructions about the oral medicine taking.

The process of cerebral angiography test

The day before the test

  1. 1. We will shave the body hair in your groin area along the thigh.

                Easy to remove the fixing tape.
  1. 2. Person scheduled before noon: please do not eat or drink from lights out till the test ends the next day.

The day of the test

The test scheduled before noon

  1. 1. Please follow the nurse's instructions about the oral medicine taking for the current day.

The test scheduled after noon

  1. 1. Please do not eat or drink after the breakfast.
  2. 2. The medicine, please obey the instructions of the nurse.

Right before the test

  1. 1. Please take off pajama, underwear and then wear the hospital gown. Please remove glasses, watch, ring, contact lens and dentures.
  2. 2. You will be put on a drip in the left hand.
  3. 3. We will use cache-sexe to cover your body in order to make the test go smoothly.
  4. 4. The medical staff will mark “X” sign on the tangible pulse of the instep.
  5. 5. Please lie in the transfer bed and the attending nurse will send you to the examining room.

After the test

  1. 1. The nurse will pick you up as soon as the test is finished. Without the doctor's permit, you can not bend the leg, in which the catheter is placed.
  2. 2. You have to defecate lying in the bed. Please talk to the nurse when you need help.
  3. 3. The nurse will help you move to the bed after arriving in the patient room, so please do not try to make a movement on your own. Bed rest may easily cause back pain; please feel free to call a nurse to help you reposition yourself.
  4. 4. Contrast agent used in the test will be egested with urine. You will be put on a drip in order to help contrast agent move faster; meanwhile, we suggest you drink more.
  5. 5. You may drink water right away if you do not feel sick after the test.
  6. 6. You may eat approximately 1 hour after the test if you do not feel sick. Please wait and the nurse will help you with that.
  7. 7. 4 to 6 hours after the test, the doctor will check the wound condition and will peel off the fixing adhesive tap if nothing abnormal detected.
  8. 8. Please follow the doctor's instructions to act, for example, when is ok to move legs, when is ok to get up and when is ok to walk.
  9. 9. If nothing abnormal detected, you may get a permission to take a bath next day after the test.
