What can be detected by abdominal ultrasound test?
Abdominal ultrasound enables the doctor to observe liver, gallbladder, kidney, pancreas and kidney in the abdomen to find abnormalities, such as cancer, polyps, stones and so on. Besides the foresaid organs, abdominal ultrasound can also detect stomach and intestines, aorta, uterus, ovarian, prostate and bladder to catch very tiny lesion.
A handheld unit called a transducer with gel is pressed against your abdomen and use reflected sound waves to create images, therefore, the test is totally painless. Abdominal ultrasound is not radiation related, so the test is safe.

Precautions to be taken before abdominal ultrasound test?
No special food restrictions.
The Process of abdominal ultrasound test
The day before the test
The test scheduled for abdominal ultrasound before noon
Please do not eat or drink after 21:00 of the day before the test.
Please do not eat until the test ends.
Please do not have your breakfast.
You may drink some water or tea.
The test scheduled for abdominal ultrasound after noon
Please finish your breakfast before 8:00 and no food is allowed after that.
The day of the test
- 1. You do not have to change into hospital gown, but please choose those easy to expose your abdomen.
- 2. You will be guided to the exam room.
- 3. Please lie on the bed and then, the test starts while you are pulling your outer clothes up to expose your abdomen.
- 4. A handheld unit called a transducer with gel is pressed against the examination region to perform the test which takes about 10-20 minutes.
- 5. As necessary, sometimes, you are probably asked to take a deep breath.
- 6. When the test ends, our staff will clean the gel with warm towel.
After the Test
- 1. After the test, you may have meals as usual.
